race where the Leica telephoto on the E-330 really showed its stuff.

Olympus E-330, Leica Vario-APO-Elmarit 70-180mm f2.8 plus Leica APO 2x extender, 1/2000th second, f2.8 (effective 5.6 with doubler), ISO 200, lens at full extension (720mm equivalent) Aperture priority, manual focus, RAW capture.

The lens-camera combo is the same as the Lympa Log main page logo photograph. With the matching APO 2x extender, this quality Leica lens shows no loss of resolution even when the lens is wide open at f2.8.

Racing airplanes flew fast and low through a closed course between the San Diego skyline and North Island.  It took some practice with the long telephoto to accurately track the maneuvers that corkscrewed around pylons floating in the bay. Click the image for a more photos.

The above image was also published in the LUG Yearbook 2007, a collection of photographs from the Leica User Group e-list community.
