Kneeland Prairie Sunset
With a cold mist covering most of the coast, I headed into the hills above Eureka, driving
through clouds and into the sunny hills of Kneeland.

Some scenes seem perfect for the square format of a Hasselblad camera. At a spot just a couple of Mercedes-car-commercial-curves below the Kneeland airfield, I hiked a hundred yards down the hill to look south over fog-filled valleys at sunset. Hasselblad H1, 80mm f2.8 Zeiss - two photographs were taken on a sturdy tripod in order to capture the dynamic range of shadowed hills and sunlit skies on a 16 megapixel digital Kodak Pro Back 645. One shot captured the overall exposure detail, which gave almost white skies. The other was about three stops underexposed to give cloud and sky highlight detail. Then I used the layer/mask capabilities of Photoshop to combine the two images, much like you can do in-camera with a graduated neutral density filter in front of the lens. |

Log page shows an aerial photograph of Kneeland near the above scene.
The following photographs were taken up on Kneeland with the Olympus E-330 and lenses:
Digital Zuiko14-54mm f2.8-3.5
Leica APO Vario-Elmarit 70-180mm f2.8
